Privacy policy
Thanks for reading this one. We have kept it plain: what we collect, why we have it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
This policy covers gilbert-maxwell.com, our checkout, our emails, and any message you send us. It does not cover other websites we link to.
Who we are
We sell to customers in the United States. For anything on this page, email customercare@gilbert-maxwell.com.
What we collect
You give us:
- Your name
- Your shipping and billing address
- Your email address, and a phone number if you add one for delivery
- What you ordered, and your order history with us
- Anything you write to us by email or contact form
We collect automatically as you browse:
- Your IP address and the approximate region it points to
- Your device, operating system, and browser
- The pages you open and the links you click
- The site, search, or ad that brought you here
What we never hold
- Your full card number, security code, or expiry date. Card details go straight into our payment providers' systems and never reach ours.
- Your bank login details. We will never ask for them.
- Government identification. We have no reason to ask for it.
What we use it for
- Taking payment, processing your order, and shipping it
- Sending order confirmations, shipping notifications, and tracking
- Answering your questions and handling returns, exchanges, and refunds
- Sending marketing emails, only if you have opted in
- Detecting fraud and keeping the store secure
- Understanding how the site is used so we can improve it
- Meeting our tax, accounting, and legal obligations
Who else handles it
Other companies run parts of this store. Each gets only what its job needs:
- Shopify, which hosts the store and processes orders
- Payment providers, including Shopify Payments and PayPal where offered
- Fulfillment partners and carriers, who need your name and address to deliver
- Email and analytics providers, who send the messages you asked for and measure site performance
- Advertising platforms, through cookies and pixels, where advertising is running
- Our accountants, advisors, and any authority legally entitled to ask
Some of these operate outside the United States, so your information may be processed abroad under their own safeguards.
What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information for money.
- We do not rent or trade your contact details.
- We do not send marketing you did not ask for. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, it works on the first click, and we never ask why.
Sharing data with advertising partners through cookies and pixels can count as "sharing" under some US state privacy laws even where no money changes hands. You can opt out of that, and Your rights below explains how.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a site stores on your device. We use them to:
- Keep your cart intact as you move between pages
- Remember your preferences
- Count visits and see which pages are working
- Support and measure advertising, where it is running
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and through the cookie banner where one appears. Blocking the essential ones will break the cart and the checkout.
Advertising and analytics
Where we advertise, we may use tools from providers such as Google and Meta to measure whether it worked. They set their own cookies and handle data under their own privacy policies. You can limit personalized advertising through your Google Ads settings, your Meta ad preferences, or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tools.
How long we keep it
- Order records: as long as tax and accounting law requires, which runs to several years
- Marketing contacts: until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed
- Support emails: while they are useful for context, then deleted
- Analytics: in aggregate, where individuals are no longer identifiable
How we protect it
The site runs over encrypted connections, checkout included, and access to order data is limited to the people who need it. No system connected to the internet is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we will tell you promptly if something goes wrong.
Your rights
Email customercare@gilbert-maxwell.com and you can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete it, where the law does not require us to keep it
- Stop sending you marketing
- Opt you out of any sharing with advertising partners
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you those rights specifically, along with the right to know how we collect, use, and disclose your information, and the right not to be treated differently for using them. Put "Privacy request" in the subject line. We verify who you are before acting, and we respond inside the time the law allows.
Anyone under 18
This store is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete it if we find we have. If you are a parent or guardian and think your child has given us information, email us and it will be removed.
Other websites
We link to sites we do not control, and some tools on our pages load content from them. Once you are on someone else's site, their privacy policy applies, not ours.
Changes to this page
When our practices change, this page changes with them and the date at the top is updated. Where a change is significant, we will say so.
